I moved to Barbados and am still waiting to be settled.
So another short email. But next week, you will get my usual format for articles.
But for today!
I want to talk about the future. And how you should give a big middle finger to it.
Now I'm not saying this as a nihilist.
But more so as an existentialist, where you focus on today. In the West, we get so worked up for tomorrow.
Tomorrow, I'll start working out.
Tomorrow, I'll talk to that cute girl.
Tomorrow, I'll stand up to that jerk.
This thinking that we have tomorrow is cowardly. We neglect what we have to do today by deferring to tomorrow.
And this is not me blowing steam.
The existentialists mentioned that tomorrow does not exist.
If we're being honest, it's true.
We don't know if we will wake up the next day. I knew a guy I went to junior high and high school with who, a few weeks before his birthday and wedding, died suddenly at 28.
Gone.
Never to be seen again.
As the movie Rashomon said:
"A human life is truly as frail and fleeting as the morning dew."
So start living today.
Not tomorrow but today. The things you are scared to do should be done as soon as possible. We can't afford to waste time.
Because by the time you realize it, 20 years have passed, and you are still in the same position.
Sun Tzu put it best when it came to speedy actions and delayed ones:
I have heard that in war
Haste can be
Folly;
But have never seen
Delay that was
Wise
There is no such thing as a wise delay.
So go make the most of your life. You have no idea how much time you have in it.
Until next time,
