How to become great like Ancient Rome

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

Concise post today.

But I'd like to remind you of an important lesson.

What's this lesson?

Before I divulge it, I want to do a quick history lesson. As many of you know, I am a history nerd. And in my random knowledge of history, I know too much about Ancient Rome.

I can't explain my affinity for it.

Anyways, I noticed a few things from my unhealthy consumption of Roman history. First off, Rome started as a village. It had farmers, criminals, and a bunch of people brought together for random reasons. Over time, Rome became a kingship with all the issues that came from it.

Then boom!

A revolution destroys the kingship, and it becomes a republic. Here is where Rome started to assert its dominance as a superpower and destroyed all those who came in its path. Then while things were good, Rome went through another civil war and changed again. Resulting in an emperor leading it. And here we get all those Roman emperors leading Rome to success (and failure).

So what's the reason for all this random information about Rome?

Well, the Romans understood that they had to figure life out via trial and error. When they started that village, nobody had a manual for running an empire. They just took action when necessary and allowed themselves to evolve. And they happened to grow into one of the most stunning recorded civilizations.

So don't think you have to have everything figured out from the get-go. Just take consistent action like the Romans, and you'll figure the solutions out on the way. That's the most beautiful way to live life.

No overthinking

No perfectionism

No hesitation.

Just consistently engage with the world.

And trust me, if you do this long enough, you'll realize that you will get more done than you can imagine.

A simple lesson but an important one to remember.

Until next time,

Bulcha
